For most people their houseplants are a precious gift from Mother Nature. They offer us beauty, relaxation and an escape from the stress of daily life. However, we do our best to take care of them. We water them daily, fertilize them and feed them properly. If you are like me, you also enjoy using various types of house plants ideas so you can be able to make your plants brighten up your home.
A beautiful home is the crowning glory of a person’s home. It’s not only the inside that should be perfect; the outside of your home deserves to be beautiful as well. This is why I love to use various types of house plants ideas to spruce up the outside of my home. Some of the most common plants I use for this purpose are:
* Lavender – One of the most popular house plants ideas for those who live in cooler climates. Lavender is a type of evergreen shrub that grows up to eight to ten feet tall and prefers a lot of water. If you live in a humid area, it will benefit you immensely by providing a source of humidity control. Just be sure to mist your lavender frequently during the hottest part of the season.
* Basil – This is another popular house plants ideas for those of us with more southern climates. Like lavender, basil will benefit from a bit of watering but does very well if you place it in an area where it will get plenty of sunlight. Keep in mind that basil is most effective when it is placed near a window, as the intense light will provide it with warmth.
* Juniper – Popular among gardeners, junipers are great house plants ideas because they love lots of water. These trees thrive in full sun, but need to have less frequent water feeds. If you live in an area where the winters are harsh, you may want to consider winterizing your tree, which can be as simple as cutting the leaves back and wrapping them in mulch. In the spring, they’ll be glad to see you. Junipers also do well in container gardens.
* Poinsettia – This is another one of those house plants ideas for people with southern accents. Originally from the Mediterranean, poinsettias have adapted to many areas of the world, including being used to help alleviate allergy symptoms in some people. It grows up to two feet tall, and is a perennial. Poinsettia requires an annual water soak, and can get quite messy if you try to grow it in a traditional soil setup. If you’re concerned about Poinsettia’s dust, you can purchase silk plants that come encased in a mesh or plastic covering so that the dust doesn’t filter into your flower beds. Just make sure you water the Poinsettia often enough to keep it green and healthy!
* Ferns make beautiful additions to any home. They’re easy to care for, require little maintenance, and offer numerous house plants ideas due to their size and versatility. Ferns are a great choice if you want a low maintenance, indoor plant that goes with practically any decor. Most ferns will do fine with regular watering, although you may want to check and see if you can give it a deeper, darker color of soil to help keep it looking its best. Ferns are not at all invasive, and can be grown right on your windowsill, if you’re careful about trimming and pruning.
* Ferns don’t have flowers, so be careful not to plant too many in a space. A fence would be a good place to hide these beautiful plants. Another one of the house plants ideas for people who live in warm climates is dwarf pine trees. These graceful little trees are popular for their grace and timeless beauty. You can decorate your home around dwarf pine trees, or place them in a container to bring color and interest to a room.
